Bi-Annual PQA President's Awards - Thursday 18th November 2010 at Government House
On Thursday 18th November 2010, three worthy recipients were presented with a PQA 2010 President's Award by the Patron of PARAQUAD SA, His Excellency Rear Admiral Kevin Scarce AC CSC RANR, Governor of South Australia, at a special ceremony at Government House. PARAQUAD SA presents our bi-annual President's Awards to recognise the outstanding achievements of individuals or organisations who have made a significant contribution to the South Australian Disability Community. This year, Mr. Wally Miller OAM and Mrs. Yolanta and Mr. Natale Dottore received President's Awards, while United Water International received an inaugural PQA President's Community Spirit Award, recognising the achievements of corporations and businesses. The 2010 Recipients:
Mr. Wally Miller OAM, Norwood Football Club and South Australian National Football League life member. Wally was a regular league footballer with Norwood when he was struck down with polio at the age of 24. Wally continued to be heavily involved with football, "running" his beloved Redlegs for 22 years after his injury, before moving to the SANFL. As a consultant for the SANFL, Wally has been instrumental in making South Australian football and the league venues more accessible to all sporting fans.
Mr. Natale and Mrs. Yolanta Dottore, who have lived with spinal cord injury for over 48 years. As one of the state's longest surviving quadriplegics, Natale and Yolanta have managed a small farm and home business, travel extensively overseas, and are well known identities in the Norwood community. Yolanta has been sole carer to Natale since he sustained his injury. They are a true team and a great illustration of what can be achieved with positivity and spirit.

United Water International, who received the inaugural Community Spirit Award for their 10 year support of PARAQUAD SA's United Water ZOO Accessible Adventure Days. As the major sponsors of the Zoo Days since their inception, United Water has enabled over 9,000 people with a disability from across South Australia to experience the beauty and excitement of Adelaide Zoo.
