GERONIMOS

PARAQUAD SA has chosen the giraffe as our mascot to help raise awareness of Spinal Cord Injury within the younger community and to help raise vital funds for the services we provide across the state. There is also a physical reason why PARAQAUD SA chose the Giraffe – as both Giraffes and humans have seven vertebrae in their necks. Most mammals have seven neck bones or cervical vertebrae, but there are exceptions. The manatee and the two-toed sloth have only six cervical vertebrae, the ant bear has eight cervical vertebrae and the three-toed sloth has nine cervical vertebrae.

PARAQUAD SA also chose the giraffe due to our long association with Adelaide Zoo, due to the staging of our Annual SA Water Zoo Accessible Adventure Days (since 2001) and Annual Wild Wine & Cocktail Party (since 2004).

The name GERONIMO was chosen from hundreds of entries in a ‘name the mascot’ competition which PARAQUAD SA staged as part of our Annual Zoo Accessible Adventure Days in 2009. The winning name was submitted by 12 year old Lauren Dinning of Mundulla, who won a giant GERONIMO for her efforts.

PARAQUAD SA is now selling a range of cute, fluffy GERONIMOs for $5, $10 or $15 each to raise vital funds. If you would like to have your very own GERONIMO, they can be purchased from our reception at 28 Lower Portrush Road, Marden, during office hours.
